Part 1 - Displaying data in Vision

Prerequisites

  • You must have created and activated your account.
  • You must have a current subscription.
  • You need access to at least one area layer and one location layer.

Required time: Up to 10 minutes.

Vision displays data on top of a Google Map, providing you with the information you need to make the best decisions for your business.

In Vision, data is categorised into three types: areas, locations, and attributes. Areas are displayed as boundary lines on the map. Locations are displayed as pins on the map. And attributes provide statistics that describe an area’s composition. Both areas and locations that form part of the same set of data are organised into groups we call layers.

Introducing the Layer Control

When you first log in to Vision, the layer control will be displayed on the left-hand side. The layer control displays all layers that you currently have access to. Simply click on a layer to turn it on or off. Let’s try turning an area layer on now.

You’ll see that the area layer you just turned on expanded, revealing additional controls beneath the name. The central button allows you to toggle labels for the areas on and off the map. Click it now to activate them.

Try turning on a location layer in the same way. Depending on the number of locations within your layer, you may see that we’ve clustered them together to prevent flooding the map; these clusters will update automatically as you zoom in and out. There are no labels for location layers.

Introducing the Information Window

The information window displays detailed data for a specific area or location. Try clicking on the map over an area you want to view information for.

You can view the territory name an classification at the top, and you navigate the different aspects of the information window using tabs. The first tab that shows when you click on an area is Key attributes. These are a selection of attributes that are most important to your business. The ones that you want to see above all else.

You can click on an individual attribute to expand it. If it's a combined demographic, you can click on it to see a breakdown of the sub-attributes.

The Locations tab provides summary statistics, along with more granular, visual breakdowns of key attributes for your location and POI layers.

The Market profile tab displays ALL available attributes in your system, shown as interactive graphs. Access all the market information in one place, more simply than ever.

The Data tab displays any additional details assigned to an area or location. These are also known as custom attributes.

The FYN tab enables you to view and manage the Find Your Nearest rules and settings applied to a specific area or location.

The Notes tab enables you to manage notes associated with specific areas or locations.

The Actions tab is where you can carry out any additional actions for an area or location. Whether it's editing boundaries or locations, deleting, exporting, sharing, copying, or generating time/distance zones.

Try clicking on a location to view the information window. You’ll notice that it looks very similar, except that the Key attributes, Locations, and Market profile tabs are unavailable.

Note: The information window is only available for individual locations, you can’t click on clusters. If you’re only seeing clusters, try zooming in until they separate.
