Step 1 - Choosing the classification type

Choose the type of layer you're creating the classification for.

It's important to get this right. Classifications cannot be used for different layer types, and the type cannot be changed after it has been saved.

Click Continue to move on.

Step 2 - Classification name and colour settings

Begin by assigning a suitable name to your classification. Ensure that you give your classification a name that accurately describes what it represents.

Next, you need to set the colour settings based on the type of layer you selected in Step 1.

Classification colour settings for area layers

A classification made for area layers specifies the colour used to fill the area within the boundary of a record to which it is applied.

Tip: The opacity allows fine control of the selected colour. Any lower than 0.3 and you won't see the colour very well. Higher than 0.7, and you'll struggle to see the map underneath the area.

Classification colour settings for location layers

A classification applied to location layers allows you to modify a location record icon when the classification is applied to it. These settings optionally override each of the display settings at the layer level.

Because location settings optionally override the layer-level settings, you don't have to use them all. Use them to subtly differentiate records with this classification from others in the same layer.

Click Continue to move on.

Step 3 - Choose which layers use the classification

It's now time to specify which layers you would like to use the classification on. Note that your layers are organised into groups by country to make finding them easier.

Clicking a country header will expand or collapse the group. Clicking a layer will select/deselect it.

Click Continue to move on.

Step 4 - Review and finish

The final stage simply confirms your choices through this process. If you've made a mistake, now is the time to go back and correct it.
